There are SO many ways to network in your city or town. Websites are all over the place helping individuals, companies, and groups find like-minded friends and colleagues to expand their network and overall spice for life!
I’ve made a list of a few options when looking for a meet-up of like-minded folks in your area.
- Meetup.com: This is the number one place to find all the topics/interests you can dream of! Have a passion for small, white, fluffy dogs? There’s a meet-up for that! Love underground techno music, yep other people do too, and want to meet you! Want to talk to other entrepreneurs to learn about the struggles of starting a small business? They are probably your neighbors! Sign up. You won’t regret it.
- Reddit.com: Either you Reddit or you don’t, but I promise, once you start you can’t stop. Most towns have their own ‘sub-Reddit’. A place where you can bitch about parking violations, how people drive, and the dogs who poop in your yard. It’s also a place to find like-minded people and start a conversation!
- Eventbrite.com: This gives you a chance to browse the latest posted events in your area and get tickets! You can also use this site if you want to start your own networking event! (pro tip: offer free food to get your first round of new comers!)
- Facebook.com: This goes without saying. Type whatever interest, hobby, or profession that interests you in the top search bar along with your city/town and surely you’ll come up with some active groups in your area. If you don’t, maybe it’s time to build an online community to find more like-minded people!
Perhaps you use another tool? Please share your expertise in the comments section and we’ll add it to the list!
Now onto the challenge:

It grieves me to say that Mexican fast-food chain, Chipotle, has recently been linked to outbreaks of E. Coli across the country and a norovirus outbreak in California that happened last August. Since the very first time my taste buds encountered Chipotle, it has been one of my favorite restaurants. Previous to the incidents, the Mexican restaurant chain maintained a pristine public perception, but it is now undergoing investigation by a grand jury for the norovirus outbreak and was served a subpoena in December. Not at all surprisingly, this has severely damaged Chipotle’s sales and the downward trend is expected to continue.
Sadly, these things do happen from time to time. Taco Bell spawned a similar outbreak of E. Coli back in 2006. If history serves as a guide, Chipotle might expect their plunge to continue for at least a year or more, like Taco Bell’s which lasted for five quarters. Fortunately for the chain formerly beloved by so many, Taco Bell and other restaurants that suffered similar dives in the past have all typically made full recoveries, though it often took a couple of years.
For Chipotle, these outbreaks could potentially prove to be damning in ways that Taco Bell’s E. Coli outbreak was not. The company has poured all of its marketing efforts into building a reputation as a fast-food restaurant committed to using better ingredients and making its food fresh.
It’s always a mind-numbing task to review the year that just passed, trying to piece together the puzzle of events – and 2015 was no different. From the investment side, precious metals had a slow and low year. Technology took some massive steps forward with the release of driverless car prototypes, ubiquitous Uber, a wide variety of drone applications, robots, 3D printers… the list goes on.
While technology has been punching away at the world’s troubles, ‘government’ has provided the endless background hum as we approach the 2016 elections. I won’t bore you with the details but amid heated talk of the war against ISIS, it is regulations and taxation that have continued their insidious influence, growing in reach akin to the way the money supply grows in such a speedy and unethical fashion. No, we aren’t here to remind you of the grim realities of the world; just to send some motivation and energy into your day-to-day life, and to ensure you are seizing each day and making it count!
We bring you the #BeResponsible campaign for 2016!
One of the best films – with a message – is celebrating its day of inspiration this week, and Anthem Vault plans to make it an exciting week for our customers. The 5th of November is celebrated as ‘Guy Fawkes Day’, mostly in Great Britain. Citizens celebrate the failed attempt of taking down King James I. This same story was interpreted into the blockbuster hit “V for Vendetta”, which sent shockwaves through Hollywood. It became an allegory against oppression, and many political groups have since referenced the film. This controversial film, that was first a book, tells the story of the failed Gunpowder Plot of 1605, attempted by Guy Fawkes as well as 10 or more other plotters.
One of the original authors of V for Vendetta describes the film’s significance in society today:
“The Guy Fawkes mask has now become a common brand and a convenient placard to use in protest against tyranny – and I’m happy with people using it, it seems quite unique, an icon of popular culture being used this way.”
We are celebrating the 5th of November all week and giving away a 2 ozt Warbird, .999 silver round. All you have to do is join our Facebook page’s caption contest.
The person who contributes a caption and receives the most likes will win. We will also have a winner picked by the judges here at Anthem Vault. Visit the page and submit your caption! The winner will be announced on Thursday at 4pm MST.
